URL Encoder/Decoder

Convert a full URL or query parameter value with UTF-8 percent encoding and restore the original text.

Conversion mode

Encoding type

URL Component: Encodes reserved characters for values such as query parameters.

Full URL: Keeps URL structure characters such as /, ?, =, and &.

Standard Decode keeps + as a literal plus character; it does not turn + into a space.

Choosing a method

URL Component is best for query parameter values. Full URL keeps the address structure. An existing % escape may be encoded again.

Processed only in your browser

Your input and result are not sent to a server or stored, and decoded output is never opened as a link.

What does the URL Encoder/Decoder do?

It applies UTF-8 percent encoding to either a complete URL or an individual URL component, and decodes valid percent-encoded text without treating plus signs as spaces by default.

How to use it

  1. 1

    Choose Encode or Decode

Select the direction based on whether the input is plain Unicode text or percent-encoded text.

  2. 2

    Choose the encoding scope

Use URL Component for parameter values, or Full URL when URL structure characters should remain readable.

  3. 3

    Convert and copy

Run the operation, review reserved characters, and copy the result.

Practical examples

Query value

안녕하세요 world & test=true
Use: URL Component

Complete URL

https://example.com/search?q=안녕하세요&sort=new
Use: Full URL

Processing rules and limitations

  • UTF-8 bytes

Unicode characters are converted to UTF-8 percent-encoded byte sequences.

  • Reserved characters

Full URL mode preserves URL structure in the same manner as encodeURI; component mode encodes separators such as &, =, ?, and /.

  • Plus signs

Normal decode preserves + as a plus. Query-string handling is a separate form-encoding behavior.

URL text stays in the browser

Encoding, decoding, and query editing run locally. The entered URL is not requested, visited, or stored by this site.

Frequently asked questions

Which mode should I use for a query parameter value?

Use URL Component so separators inside the value cannot be confused with URL structure.

Why did decoding fail on % or %ZZ?

Every percent escape must contain exactly two hexadecimal digits and form valid UTF-8 when decoded.

Does + become a space?

Not in normal URL Decode mode. Use query-string behavior only when the source follows application/x-www-form-urlencoded rules.
